Recycling & Disposal in Fort Worth, TX

The City of Fort Worth Solid Waste division runs weekly curbside recycling, four residential Drop-Off Stations, and the regional Environmental Collection Center (jointly with Tarrant County) for household hazardous waste.

Fort Worth splits recycling and disposal across three systems. Weekly curbside blue-cart pickup handles everyday paper, cardboard, plastic bottles/jugs, metal cans, and glass, on the same day as trash. Bulkier or restricted items, scrap metal, tires, appliances, electronics, fire extinguishers, and general household hazardous waste, go to one of four residential Drop-Off Stations instead, free to Fort Worth residents on the city's sanitation service. Larger volumes of chemicals, paint, automotive fluids, and pool/lawn chemicals go to the Environmental Collection Center (ECC) at 6400 Bridge St., a joint City of Fort Worth / Tarrant County facility, residents of unincorporated Tarrant County need a voucher from the county first, City of Fort Worth residents can use it directly with proof of residence.

Curbside recycling rules

Blue-cart recycling is collected weekly on your regular trash day. Accepted: flattened cardboard, mail, newspaper, cereal/dry-goods boxes, plastic bottles and jugs, aluminum cans, food tins, and glass jars/bottles, all empty, clean, dry, and loose (never bagged). Not accepted curbside: plastic bags or film (these jam sorting equipment, take them to a store drop-off instead), "tanglers" like hoses, wires, chains, or electronics, clothing or linens, and anything with food, liquid, or diapers in it. Carts with clearly contaminated material may be skipped by the collection crew.

TX also has state-specific programs, see the Texas state page.
