Batteries (Household & Rechargeable)

Hazardous material

Rechargeable batteries and cellphones can be dropped off free at thousands of public collection points nationwide through Call2Recycle, or at any IKEA store. Single-use alkaline batteries are not accepted by Call2Recycle and are handled differently by location.

Curbside recycling?

No

Batteries should not go in curbside recycling or household trash bins, they can cause fires in collection trucks and processing facilities.

Safety note

Never puncture, crush, or expose batteries to heat. Tape the terminals of 9-volt and lithium batteries before transport or drop-off to prevent short-circuiting.

How to prepare it

  • Tape the terminals of 9-volt and lithium batteries with clear tape
