Recycling & Disposal in Los Angeles, CA

The City of Los Angeles (LA Sanitation & Environment) runs the S.A.F.E. Center program for household hazardous waste and e-waste, open to both City of LA and LA County residents. Curbside recycling is handled separately by the city's own collection service or a private hauler depending on your address.

Los Angeles splits waste and recycling into two separate systems. Curbside collection depends on your building: single-family homes and buildings with 1-4 units are served directly by LA Sanitation & Environment (blue bin for recyclables, black bin for trash, green bin for yard waste), while buildings with 5 or more units and commercial accounts are served instead by recycLA, a franchise system of private haulers assigned by zone. Neither curbside system accepts household hazardous waste or electronics, those go to one of the city's S.A.F.E. Centers (Solvents/Automotive/Flammables/Electronics) instead, free for City of LA and LA County residents, listed below.

CA also has state-specific programs, see the California state page.
