States with Specific Programs

We only publish a state page when that state has a real, sourced program worth knowing about: a stewardship law, deposit program, or state-mandated fee. Most states don't have one yet in our coverage.

• California

  California participates in PaintCare's paint stewardship program (free paint drop-off funded by a fee on new paint) and charges a state-mandated tire disposal fee of $0.25 per tire at the point of sale.

• New York

  New York's PaintCare program has been active statewide since May 1, 2022, overseen by the NY Department of Environmental Conservation. New York also charges a state-mandated tire disposal fee of $2.50 per new tire sold.

• Washington

  Washington participates in PaintCare's paint stewardship program and charges a state-mandated tire fee of $1 per tire on new replacement vehicle tire sales.
