Most states require tire retailers to accept your old tire, at no extra charge beyond the state-mandated disposal fee, when you buy a new one.
How it works
When purchasing new tires, the retailer is generally required to take your old tires. A state-mandated per-tire fee (verified examples: California $0.25/tire, Washington $1/tire, New York $2.50/tire, Illinois $2.50/tire) is added to the sale and funds proper disposal.
