Preparation instructions
Cardboard boxes must be clean of food and empty of packing materials (Styrofoam, plastic air bags, plastic wrap, kraft paper). Glass bottles and jars must be empty with lids removed. Plastics must be emptied and rinsed. Pre-sort materials into one-way containers (cardboard boxes, paper grocery bags) before arriving to reduce wait time.
Accepted items
Also accepts newspaper, office paper, junk mail, envelopes, magazines, postcards, aseptic and gable-top cartons, metal and aluminum cans, plastics #1-5 and #7 (emptied and rinsed), and scrap metal, per the City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department's official Westpark rules sheet. A drive-through facility used by more than 11,000 residents per month.
Not accepted here
Junk waste, tree waste, ordinary trash/garbage, large plastic items (toys, garden tools, furniture), flexible plastic (bags, shrink wrap, tarps, snack bags), oil-based paint, general household hazardous waste chemicals, videotapes, CDs/CD cases, and plastic coat hangers. These go to a Residential Drop-Off Center instead.
